HLTAID011 Provide First Aid is among the most commonly offered workplace First Aid courses in Australia and holds recognition in all states and territories. This First Aid refresher course imparts both the theoretical understanding and practical application of First Aid skills, covering more than two dozen prevalent First Aid conditions and illnesses.

Upon successfully completing this comprehensive First Aid course, you will be proficient in providing national-standard First Aid.

Within this course, you will acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to deliver a First Aid response and life support, manage casualties, incidents, and other First Aiders until qualified emergency assistance arrives at the scene.

Key Skills Acquired

  • Identifying and assessing emergency situations.

  • Ensuring safety for yourself, bystanders, and casualties.

  • Requesting assistance from emergency services.

  • Performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in accordance with Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines.

  • Administering First Aid following established principles.

  • Handling casualties with respect.

  • Seeking consent from casualties where possible.

  • Utilising available resources and equipment to provide comfort to casualties.

  • Operating First Aid equipment following manufacturers’ instructions.

  • Monitoring the casualty’s condition and responding in alignment with First Aid principles.

  • Accurately conveying incident details to emergency services.

  • Reporting incident details in accordance with relevant workplace or site procedures.

  • Completing the necessary workplace or site documentation, including incident report forms.

  • Safeguarding the privacy and confidentiality of information in compliance with statutory or organisational policies.

  • Recognising potential psychological impacts on oneself and other rescuers and seeking assistance when necessary.

  • Contributing to a review of the First Aid response as required.

Duration

1 Day

The face-to-face delivery is completed in 1 day, however the self-paced theoretical component of the unit is completed prior to this in the student’s own time.
